Senior and Weekend (SAW) Rowing
Senior and Weekend Rowing
Experienced and novice rowers of all ages that are in good physical condition, are encouraged to contact the SAW Program Representative jasmailes@gmail.com so they may be evaluated for this program. The rower should also have a general understanding of rowing technique and boat issues such as set, run and timing.
Attendance:
Attendance to the SAW program practices is relaxed; however, consistent participation is encouraged.
Workouts:
Practices are held Saturdays from 7:00 am until 9:00 am (rain or shine). If a regatta is scheduled at the boathouse on a Saturday, practices will move our practice to Sunday to minimize conflicts. Those attending the SAW Program for the first time should email James Smailes, SAW Rep, at jasmailes@gmail.com before coming down to the boathouse to ensure practice will be taking place on the day you plan to arrive.
Current SAW Program Members, please check the Message Board (link is to the left) for updates to the Practice schedule.
Practices will usually consist of the following:
Racing
Capital’s Senior and Weekend rowers can and do participate in regattas as they wish. Although competition isn’t the main focus of the program, for those wanting to experience racing are well supported. In addition, time handicaps are given based on age categories which help to even the playing field for all rowers.
Teammates
The SAW Program is filled with a variety of people of all ages whose common bond is their interest in the sport of rowing and the desire to row in a relaxed environment.
Equipment
Senior and weekend rowers use a variety of sculling and sweep boats depending upon their background and experience. Generally the following boats are used:
8 man coxed sweep boats (8+)
4 man coxed sweep boats (4+)
